Punjabi folk dance

Punjab is a highly traditional state and Punjabi folk dance is a quite famous dance of Punjabi culture. Punjab includes traditional and religious dance. There lies a quite different in the performance of Punjabi dances performed by females and males. Energetic Punjabi dance is quite varying in the form of energetic spirit and enthusiasm. Some dance is performed in a slow and a reserved form.

Types of Punjabi folk dances:

Rituals of Punjabi folk dances are prepared through men and women, some dance includes kikli, Jan go and gidha which is performed only through females and other include Bhangra, jugni and jhumar which is commonly performed through men.

Common Punjabi folk dance prepared through both the genders includes the following:

Bhangra

It is associated with dhol and rhythmic clapping. It’s a dance which elaborates a lot of stamina. People performing bhangra on occasions shows full liveness and dynamism of people. Earlier it was performed on festive occasions such as Baisakhi but now it is performed on every moment of life.

Kikli

Many women perform this dance in pair. Usually, women cross their arms with each another and keep on swinging around.

Karthi

Karthi is one of the most popular dances of both genders. Dance is most popular in the hills than in plains. Karthi’s is incomplete without wind instruments and folk Shania.

Punjabi culture is considered as one of the oldest, famous and richest cultures of Punjab.
